Artifact 4c: Communicating with Families
From September 2014 to June 2015 I worked as the Youth Services Assistant at the Caldwell Public Library. During my time there got to know a lot of the families in the area through workshops that we provided. One of the work shops was Every Child Ready to Read by the Idaho Commission for Libraries. The Director of Youth Services and I held these workshops for parents and they focused on early literacy for children. We had to inform parents and the community about these event and contact them leading up to the events. It was very successful and we had around 23 families in total. This artifact is the poster for the workshop and a link to the website.

At the Caldwell Public Library I also started up a family Spanish Story Time. It was really a time for families to come together for an hour of read alouds, songs, rhymes and art. Through this experience I got familiar with children's literature in Spanish. This led to working with my director to building our Spanish book collection at the library. I carried this experience to my school and collaborated with the migrant program where I used story-times during the literacy classes. I learned how to foster a positive learning environment that included all families. I also made sure to include authentic material and receive feedback from parents. It was vital for parents to feel like this was their families' time and that they had valuable input so we always shared stories, songs, rhymes and riddles from our home countries. This artifact includes one of my story time plans and photos.

Artifact 4e: Growing and Developing Professionally
For two years I have attended the Idaho Association for Bilingual Educators Conference. The focus of this conference has been to advocate acheivement for all ELL learners. I have taken my experience from this conference directly to my classroom and my school. I have gained partnerships with other bilingual educators and resources that I have and will use. This year the emphasis was on the growing refugee population in Idaho, changes in migrant programs across the state and different strategies to serve the needs of ELLs. Attending this conference really helped me grow professionally because I also got to learn more about WIDA testing in Idaho and the data behind it all. This year I was a test adminster for Kindergarten ACCESS for ELLS and I already had a base understanding of it before I began the certification process for it. This artifact is the program for the IABE 2016 conference.
